The primary function of this role is to support the Underwriters on a day‑to‑day basis with evaluating and pre‑underwriting risks. Responsibilities include pricing risks, reviewing surveys, liaising with brokers, attending the box to support Underwriters, ad‑hoc reporting and performance monitoring, broker relationship management, and general servicing of new and renewal business.
Responsibilities
- Act as a key member of the Underwriting team, supporting Underwriters through all aspects of new and renewal risks.
- Price risks on behalf of Underwriters.
- Conduct pre‑underwriting risk reviews, determining if submissions fall within Underwriting appetite.
- Review surveys for high‑level risk quality assessments.
- Assist with triaging risks.
- Prepare underwriting notes and analyses of risk; analyze CAT exposure at both risk and portfolio levels.
- Help develop or enhance underwriting tools for analysis.
- Attend broker/client underwriting meetings with Underwriters as required.
- Liaise with brokers face‑to‑face at the box, by email, and via video calls.
- Issue quotes to brokers for both renewals and new business.
- Perform general day‑to‑day administrative duties, including checking renewal slips and agreeing endorsements under Underwriter guidance.
- Ensure the accuracy and upkeep of all written premium data on Charisma for risks written within the area of responsibility.
- Provide statistical information to Underwriters when requested.
- Prepare renewal lists and travel as required.
- Contribute actively to the Underwriting team, developing best‑practice processes and maintaining strong working relationships with the Underwriting Operations team.
- Act as a point of contact for Underwriting Operations and outsourcing arrangements.
Qualifications
- Essential experience working within the insurance market.
- Competent at using the Internet to conduct research.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Progression toward ACII Technical skills.
- Competent using Microsoft Edge (or similar) for research.
- Good general knowledge of world geography and basic construction types.
- Strong understanding of fundamental insurance/reinsurance concepts, slip terms, and conditions.
Education & Experience
- GCSE Maths grade B or above (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 A‑grade GCSEs or equivalent.
- Interest in studying for further insurance qualifications (ACII); job holders will be expected to achieve an Associateship within a reasonable period.
