The predicted salary is between 40000 - 50000 £ per year.

Responsible for handling claims from first advice to settlement, including instruction of surveyors/adjusters and lawyers where appropriate. Ensure Chaucer’s records accurately reflect the current status of each claim.

Responsibilities

  • Determine coverage, set reserves, and settle claims as Claims Agreement Party for various business classes.
  • Liaise with co‑insuring syndicates, companies, and claims bureau on large or contentious claims (including issuing market circulars).
  • Assign, manage, control, and liaise with relevant service providers during the life of a claim (lawyers, loss adjusters, third‑party administrators).
  • Maintain files for all lead and Claims Agreement Party claims, ensuring electronic records accurately reflect the current position.
  • Apply knowledge of tort and contract law, keeping abreast of statutory and case developments.
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers, adjusters, agents, coverholders, TPAs and other service providers, handling them in an efficient, polite and professional manner.
  • Coordinate with Reinsurance and Underwriting departments on key issues.
  • Work with Class Underwriters to monitor particular classes of business, identify claim activity, and suggest remedial measures.
  • Respond to policyholder complaints via the established mechanism.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly/quarterly reports.
  • Consult with Class Underwriters on underwriting intent, ex‑gratia or commercial settlements, and disputed coverage.
  • Travel for business purposes as required.

Regulatory Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to customers on claim initiation and progress.
  • Supply appropriate information to customers on any claim being handled.
  • Strive to achieve prompt agreement on settlement terms and pay valid claims timely once terms are agreed.
  • Identify, record, and refer customer complaints promptly.
  • Ensure the principles of Treating Customers Fairly are upheld by agents and service providers.
  • Maintain certification of any regulatory training requirements.

Requirements

  • Relevant Experience: Experience handling property claims; high‑level organisational skills. Experience across Property Binders, Energy or Marine classes, CII, or progress towards ACII desirable.
  • Education & Experience: Maths and English GCSE or equivalent; 5 GCSE passes at grade C or higher.
  • Personal Skills: Ability to work without direct supervision; excellent organisational, communication and negotiation skills; flexible, diplomatic and investigative approach.
