Overview
The role supports Underwriters day to day with evaluating and pre-underwriting risks, including pricing, reviewing surveys, broker liaison, attendance at the box supporting Underwriters, adhoc reporting and performance monitoring, broker relationship management, and servicing of new and renewal business. This is an introduction to Underwriting with potential progression to Underwriting.
Responsibilities
- Support Underwriters through all aspects of underwriting new and renewal risks
- Pricing of risks on behalf of Underwriters
- Pre-underwriting risks, including reviewing submissions to establish whether within Underwriting appetite
- High level review of surveys and risk quality
- Assist with triaging of risks
- Assist with Underwriting notes of a risk
- Analysis of CAT exposure per risk, and at portfolio level
- Assist with developing and/or enhancing new Underwriting tools for underwriting analysis
- Attend broker/client Underwriting meetings with Underwriters when required
- Day to day liaison with brokers face to face at the box, by email and via video calls
- Issue quotes to brokers on renewals and new business
- Assist underwriters with general day to day administration, including (once proficient) checking renewal slips and agreeing endorsements (with U/W guidance)
- Responsible for the accuracy and upkeep of all written premium data on Charisma for risks written within the area of responsibility
- Provide statistical information to Underwriters when required
- Prepare renewal lists
- Travel as required
- Be an active participant and contributor within the Underwriting team
- Assist and continue to develop best practice processes for the Underwriting team to work with UW Ops and maintain strong working relationships with the UW Ops team
- Act as gatekeeper/Underwriting point of contact to UW Ops and Outsourcing arrangements
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Experience working within the Insurance market
- Competent at using Internet Explorer for research
- Competent using Microsoft Office
- Progression towards ACII
- Technical Skills: Competent at using Microsoft Edge (or similar) for research
- A good general knowledge of world geography and basic construction types
- A good understanding of fundamental insurance/reinsurance concepts, slip terms and conditions
Education & Experience
- GCSE Maths grade B or above (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 3 A grade GCSEs or equivalent
- Interest in studying for further insurance qualifications (ACII) – associateship expected in a reasonable period
