Role duties:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including broker agreements, reinsurance contracts, vendor contracts, and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
  • Providing advice and support on licensing requirements, alternative risk transfer structures, reinsurance, agency/distribution, and related areas of law.
  • Instructing, overseeing, and managing third-party legal advisers and associated costs and expenses.
  • Identifying and escalating potential legal, regulatory, and reputational risks across the business and assisting in the delivery of training to business colleagues on key legal requirements.
  • Assisting in monitoring and advising the business on relevant insurance laws and regulations, particularly those concerning the Lloyd's market (e.g., Lloyd's Byelaws, Market Bulletins), FCA/PRA rules, and international regimes (e.g., EIOPA).
  • Developing and maintaining precedent documents, know-how, and guidance.
  • Advising on non-claims disputes.
  • Assisting the Head of Legal and other team members with day-to-day legal queries.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales or equivalent common law jurisdiction).
  • 1–6 years PQE.
  • Candidates with experience in insurance, reinsurance, financial services, or general commercial law, particularly within the Lloyd's market, are highly desirable.
  • Very good foundational knowledge of commercial contracts and/or relevant insurance regulation.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication (written and verbal) skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide clear, commercially focused legal advice quickly and effectively.
  • Proven ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities.
