We are a leading “Top 200” law firm with a long history of providing wealth‑management services across Lincolnshire and the East Midlands. Established in 1856, we are one of the UK’s oldest and largest private client firms.

We are looking for an experienced Trusts lawyer to join our busy Trusts team at the Stamford office. The successful candidate will either be a specialist in Trusts or an experienced private‑client lawyer with a proven track record of Trusts work who is keen to develop further expertise in the area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on the creation, administration and termination of new and existing Trusts.
  • Prepare various deeds and documents related to Trust administration.
  • Manage Trust tax returns, accounts and HMRC’s Trust Registration Service.
  • Plan on Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax matters.
  • Advise on Agricultural Property Relief, Business Property Relief and Declarations of Trust.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external advisers on Trust matters.
  • Provide support on Wills that utilise Trusts for complex family situations.
  • Administer taxable and non‑taxable estates.
  • Participate in marketing initiatives to promote the firm’s Trusts services.

Key Duties

  • Deliver ongoing service to existing clients.
  • Work with partners and fee earners to develop new business.
  • Enhance the Private Client and Trusts Departments and maximise cross‑referrals.
  • Produce fee income in line with targets.
  • Keep up-to‑date with all changes in law and practice in relevant areas.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of time spent on client and internal work.
  • Ensure billing and collection procedures comply with quality and risk policies.

Employment Details

  • Hours of work: 09:00 – 17:15, Monday to Friday (36.25 hours per week).
  • Location: Stamford.
  • Salary: Competitive and dependent on experience.

Qualifications

  • Solicitor or Legal Executive qualification.
  • Experience in Tax and Trust matters.
  • STEP Diploma or willingness to study for the qualification.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge: Passionate interest in Tax and Trust work; commercial mindset; strong computer literacy (including case‑management systems); up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant product, technical and legislative changes; understanding of Money Laundering Regulations and Solicitors’ Account Rules.
  • Skills: Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem‑identification, listening, questioning; high attention to detail; ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; strong planning and organisational skills; proficiency in written and numeracy skills.
  • Competencies: Confidence when presenting to clients; prioritisation of workloads; effective communication of technical issues to non‑specialist audiences; proactive and tactful; marketing and business‑development skills.
