We are seeking to appoint a new Receptionist to join our team. Practice hours are between 0800 and 1830 hours and flexibility is a must. The weekly hours for this role are between 30 to 37.5 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be well motivated and enthusiastic and have excellent customer service, communication and problem‑solving skills. Previous NHS reception experience would be an advantage as well as knowledge of the SystmOne clinical system.

Main duties of the job:

  • Dealing with patient queries, both face‑to‑face and over the telephone
  • Dealing with appointment requests, both face‑to‑face and over the telephone
  • Greeting and directing patients to booked appointments
  • Greeting and directing visitors to the surgery
  • Taking requests for prescription medication
  • Responding to the needs of clinicians during surgery
  • Registering new patients and temporary residents
  • Dealing with incoming tasks from internal and external sources
  • Inputting data into the patient’s healthcare records as necessary
  • Making referrals to, and liaising with, the Community Nursing Team
  • Handling non‑NHS report requests, including collecting payments from patients for non‑NHS services
  • Input and extract information from the Practice clinical system

Chastleton Medical Group is led by 3 GP Partners, supported by 6 salaried GPs and has a diverse multidisciplinary team consisting of nurse practitioners, nurses, nursing associates, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, care coordinators and a social prescribing link worker. The practice is supported and managed by an experienced management team, administration, and reception staff. Chastleton Medical Group is located in the heart of Durham City, and with a list size of 10,500. It is a long‑established practice with an excellent reputation and high patient satisfaction rates. Job responsibilities:

  • Telephone duties: making appointments, taking requests for prescriptions, giving out results, advising on ambulance transport bookings, home visit requests, dealing with general enquiries, messages from patients and complaints, contacting other providers.
  • Reception duties: register new patients and temporary residents, greet and direct patients and visitors, making appointments, generating and handing out repeat prescriptions, record and send messages internal and external, respond to needs of doctors and nurses during surgery, collect payments from patients for non‑NHS services, deal with general enquiries and complaints, scanning, filing, and lab link requests, handling non‑NHS report requests including payments OTC.
  • Prescriptions: dealing with requests for repeat prescriptions, raising prescriptions as per Practice protocols, dealing with queries relating to repeat prescriptions.
  • General: input and extract information from Practice computer system, observe health and safety guidelines at all times, any other reasonable duties as necessary.

Person specification:

Qualifications:

  • Good standard of general education
  • GCSE Mathematics C or above
  • GCSE English C or above
  • NVQII in Customer Care
  • CLAIT Qualification
