About the Company – Chasetown Civil Engineering, is a family-owned, market-leading civil engineering business, based in Staffordshire. We deliver high quality and innovative solutions to our clients, specialising in infrastructure, groundworks and related building services with project values ranging between £100,000 and £50m. We are part of the Tara Group consisting of Cameron Homes delivering high quality new homes across the Midlands and Keon Homes who work in partnership with local authorities for affordable homes provision as well as delivering homes for the private rental sector (PRS). About the Role – Responsible for the costing of infrastructure and groundworks works throughout the business, working collaboratively with stakeholders from other functions to align objectives and manage the best process into the business. Measurement and valuing of all works associated with the enquiries received, to produce a comprehensive and robust tender submission. Work closely with the Construction Managers to agree the infrastructure strategy for new projects. Establish the strategy and cost base for the labour only groundworkers currently working for the Group, developing a standardised cost base, estimating and payment system for all labour only groundworkers. Working closely with the operations team to build a partnership approach with Engineers to deliver efficient infrastructure designs to all projects, utilising the team expertise to improve designs and arrive at a cost effective and practical solution for new schemes allowing the delivery team the greatest opportunity for success. Supporting the wider Commercial teams to ensure team members are effectively experienced in the costing and management of infrastructure works.

Responsibilities

  • Review tender enquiry packs received to ensure that relevant information is available for pricing.
  • Compile and send out tender quotations that match their specifications.
  • Prepare estimates and tender bids for clients to documentation and specifications.
  • Analyse quotes for all predicted tender requirements from sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Liaise with clients, where necessary, to request additional information as required.
  • Calculate cost of plant, materials, transport, labour, and equipment hire.
  • Prepare tender breakdowns for sign off and approval.
  • Communicate with clients over tender submissions as and when queries are raised.
  • Prepare handover files to project delivery team for secured projects.
  • Present completed tenders to Senior Team, prior to submission.

Required Skills

  • At least 3 years’ experience in the Groundworks/Civils sector, preferably with experience in an estimating role.
  • The ability to oversee a tender from inception to submission, with a measured approach and confidence to make informed decisions.
  • Ability to influence through knowledge and commercial awareness.
  • Commercial awareness and acumen to ensure maximised profits alongside value engineering.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Tenacity and passion to do the right thing and get it right first time.
