This is a key planning role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, responsible for ensuring efficient scheduling of production activities across multiple product lines including interior doors, fire doors, acoustic doors, and bespoke doorset systems. The successful candidate will play a critical role in aligning customer demand with production capacity, ensuring on-time delivery, optimal workflow, and maximum operational efficiency.
The Role
As Production Scheduler, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimising detailed production schedules across the factory, ensuring that all door and doorset orders progress smoothly through manufacturing stages. You will work closely with production teams, procurement, logistics, estimating, and project management to ensure materials, labour, and machine capacity are effectively planned and utilised. This role requires strong organisational ability, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes within the doors or joinery industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage detailed production schedules for interior doors, doorsets, and associated joinery products
- Plan and prioritise workflow across manufacturing departments including cutting, machining, assembly, finishing, and dispatch
- Ensure production schedules align with customer delivery requirements and contractual lead times
- Liaise closely with production managers, team leaders, and shop floor staff to monitor progress and resolve scheduling conflicts
- Coordinate with procurement to ensure materials, hardware, and components are available in line with production plans
- Adjust schedules in response to changes in demand, urgent orders, or production delays
- Monitor capacity planning across machinery, labour, and subcontract processes
- Track job progress and update ERP/MRP systems with accurate production data
- Identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements to improve throughput and efficiency
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within production planning and scheduling
- Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders regarding production status and potential delays
- Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of production performance metrics
- Assist with forecasting and long-term planning of manufacturing workloads
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in a Production Scheduler, Production Planner, Manufacturing Planner, or Operations Planning role
- Strong background within manufacturing, ideally doors, doorsets, joinery, or building products
- Understanding of production processes including assembly, machining, and finishing
- Experience working with ERP, MRP, or production planning systems
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
