We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing provider of therapeutic children\’s homes based across Bradford and Rochdale. This is a rare opportunity to take on a dual role that blends strategic oversight, operational leadership, and regulatory responsibility.
About the Role
As Managing Director and Responsible Individual , you will provide vision, direction, and assurance across a portfolio of therapeutic children\’s homes. You\’ll act as the organisation\’s lead with Ofsted, ensuring exceptional care standards, safeguarding, and compliance while also leading on growth, service delivery, and workforce development.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping outcomes for children, supporting Registered Managers, and influencing strategic decision-making at the highest level.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Responsible Individual with full regulatory accountability under Ofsted and the Children\’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
- Provide executive leadership across all homes-ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance.
- Drive organisational growth, financial sustainability, and operational excellence.
- Lead inspections, audits, and improvement plans, ensuring services exceed regulatory expectations.
- Champion trauma-informed practice, reflective supervision, and a culture of safeguarding.
- Engage confidently with external stakeholders including Ofsted, LADO, local authorities, and commissioners.
- Oversee safer recruitment, workforce planning, and performance management in line with statutory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for expansion and lead on the registration of new services.
- Report directly to the Board, providing strategic assurance and performance updates.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Significant experience as a Responsible Individual or Registered Manager within Ofsted-regulated children\’s homes.
- A track record of turning around underperforming or high-risk services.
- Strong strategic leadership with operational oversight in a multi-site environment.
- In-depth understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and regulatory frameworks.
- Commercial awareness and experience managing budgets and performance metrics.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable:
- Experience as an Ofsted Inspector or independent consultant in residential child care.
- Familiarity with therapeutic models such as PACE, trauma-informed care, and attachment theory.
- Experience with legal proceedings or regulatory enforcement action.
