Our state-of-the-art theatres provide an exciting and challenging environment, and we are now looking for a skilled Lead Scrub Nurse to join our expanding team.

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Lead Scrub Nurse to provide high-quality clinical care within our surgical theatres. You will play a pivotal role in supporting multidisciplinary teams and ensuring the efficient running of operating theatres. This role requires expertise across multiple specialities, including Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, ENT, and Minor Orthopaedics. As the Lead Scrub Nurse, you will have a key role in coordinating the scrubbing team, providing leadership, and ensuring patient safety at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support a team of scrub nurses, ensuring the highest standards of care and professionalism are maintained.
  • Assist in a wide variety of surgeries, including but not limited to Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, ENT, and Minor Orthopaedics.
  • Prepare and maintain a sterile operating field, ensuring the appropriate instruments, equipment, and supplies are ready and sterile.
  • Take responsibility for patient care throughout the surgical process, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Ensure infection control standards are adhered to and promote a safe environment for both patients and staff.
  • Act as a mentor and support staff development, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Provide leadership and contribute to the overall performance of the theatre team.
  • Monitor and report on the quality of care delivered, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to address them.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Requesting equipment and consumables.

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with an active NMC registration.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Scrub Nurse, with expertise in Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, ENT, and Minor Orthopaedics.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on patient care and safety.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of sterilisation processes, infection control, and safety standards.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the demands of the surgical schedule.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Advanced Scrub Practitioner qualification or equivalent.
  • Surgical First Assistant experience in training and mentoring junior staff members.
