We are working with an award-winning transport and logistics business to recruit an experienced Senior Transport Planner. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established operation specialising in construction logistics, where you'll play a key role in planning a busy fleet while leading and supporting a team of planners. Reporting into the Flatbed Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for managing the day-to-day planning of approximately 20-30 Class 1 flatbed vehicles, ensuring maximum fleet utilisation, excellent customer service and efficient operational performance across the network. This is a role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem solving and can confidently make decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and optimise a dedicated fleet of approximately 20-30 Class 1 flatbed vehicles
  • Maximise vehicle utilisation while maintaining exceptional customer service
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with drivers
  • Coordinate vehicle inspections, maintenance schedules and driver holidays
  • Work closely with Operations and Commercial teams to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Support the wider planning function to ensure workloads are effectively managed
  • Coach and support members of the planning team to drive operational performance
  • Monitor and improve key transport KPIs
  • Ensure jobs are completed accurately and handed over for invoicing
  • React quickly to changing operational demands and resolve issues efficiently

About You:

We are looking for an experienced Transport Planner who is confident managing a busy fleet and enjoys working in a fast-moving logistics environment. You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience within a Transport Planner or Senior Transport Planner position
  • Experience planning a fleet of 20+ HGV Class 1 vehicles
  • Strong knowledge of transport planning within a distribution or logistics operation
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to build strong relationships with drivers and internal stakeholders
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and make effective decisions under pressure
  • A proactive and resilient approach with strong organisational skills
  • CPC qualification or a willingness to work towards one

Desirable:

  • Experience planning flatbed vehicles
  • Experience within construction logistics or heavy haulage
  • Previous experience coaching or mentoring other planners
