Children's palliative care is evolving across Scotland, with increasing opportunities to support babies, children and young people in the place that matters most to them. As a CHAS at Home Specialist Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering expert care, building relationships with families and professionals, and helping to shape the future of community-based paediatric palliative care. This is an exciting opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice with leadership, education and service development, ensuring children and families receive compassionate, high-quality support throughout their journey.

As a CHAS at Home Specialist Nurse, you will provide specialist paediatric palliative care to babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions and their families. Working autonomously within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will deliver expert clinical care, coordinate complex support packages and provide specialist advice across health, social care and third-sector partnerships.

You will support children and families throughout their palliative care journey, from referral and diagnosis, through periods of stability, deterioration and care around dying, ensuring care is responsive to the goals, wishes and priorities of each child and family. Alongside direct clinical care, you will contribute to leadership, education, quality improvement and service development, helping CHAS continue to deliver innovative, equitable and compassionate care for families across Scotland. You will contribute to a Paediatric Care Around Dying on-call standup rota, when this is required.

To thrive in this role you will:

  • Be an experienced registered nurse with a strong commitment to delivering compassionate, child and family-centred care.
  • Be educated to degree level or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
  • Have a passion for specialist paediatric palliative care and post registration experience of supporting children and young people with complex palliative care needs.
  • Confidence to work autonomously whilst knowing the value of collaboration and teamwork.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with children, young people, families and professional partners.
  • Excellent clinical judgement and decision-making skills in complex and changing situations.
  • A compassionate, family-centred approach that places children and families at the heart of everything you do.
  • A commitment to leadership, learning and continuous improvement.
  • Enthusiasm for shaping the future of children's palliative care and making a lasting difference to families across Scotland.
