This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and passionate Nutritionist to join Chartwells, part of Compass Group’s Education sector. Working within a large team of registered nutritionists, you will play a key role in driving our wellbeing agenda across schools throughout East Sussex. This role is dedicated to the East Sussex Council contract, supporting a diverse portfolio of primary and secondary schools. There will also be opportunities to work across other Compass Education subsectors, providing variety and valuable professional experience.

As a Nutritionist, you will work closely with schools, catering teams, pupils, parents and local communities to promote healthy eating, allergen safety and wellbeing initiatives. You will be instrumental in ensuring our food offer supports children and young people to thrive while contributing to our wider Social Value Strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering engaging educational sessions to children and young people aged 4-16 years
  • Advising on and managing allergen requests and processes for pupils and students
  • Writing tailored medical diet menus for children with allergies or intolerances
  • Delivering nutrition and allergen training to pupils, students, academics and catering teams
  • Promoting the benefits of school meals through engagement with clients, parents and pupils
  • Conducting audits within schools to ensure accurate allergen management, waste management, compliance with school food legislation and alignment with our food philosophy
  • Supporting local communities across East Sussex through HAF initiatives as part of our Social Value Strategy

You will form part of a small local team of Nutritionists while also being connected to our wider Nutrition and Sustainability Team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about nutrition, wellbeing and education, with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences. You will ideally have:

  • A degree or qualification in Nutrition accredited by the Association for Nutrition (AfN) or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience of food allergies and intolerances
  • Confidence presenting to large groups of both children and adults
  • The ability to translate complex nutrition information into clear, engaging messaging
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage a busy and varied workload
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to quickly build credibility with key stakeholders
  • A positive, proactive and team-focused approach
  • A keen interest in sustainability (desirable)
  • A passion for keeping up to date with the latest nutrition research and legislation
  • Flexibility to travel and occasionally stay away from home
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
