Constellation are currently recruiting for a Kitchen Porter to join our catering team at one of the manufacturing facilities in Estover, Plymouth (PL6 7PR). This is an excellent opportunity for a hardworking and reliable individual to become part of a busy foodservice operation supporting employees and visitors of the sites. As a Kitchen Porter, you will play a vital role in ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently, safely, and hygienically, supporting chefs and catering staff in delivering high-quality food and service every day.
About the Role
The Kitchen Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, food preparation areas, and catering equipment. This role is essential to the smooth running of the catering operation and provides valuable support to the kitchen team during food preparation and service periods. This position would suit someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and is willing to support the wider catering team wherever needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Kitchen Cleaning & Hygiene
- Wash and sanitise pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Operate dishwashing machinery safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all kitchen areas are cleaned to the highest standards throughout the day.
- Maintain cleanliness of floors, walls, work surfaces, sinks, storage areas, and waste disposal areas.
- Follow all cleaning schedules and hygiene procedures.
- Ensure cleaning chemicals are used, stored, and handled correctly.
- Support to the Kitchen Team
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks when required.
- Help with the delivery and storage of food and non-food supplies.
- Prepare ingredients for service under supervision.
- Ensure kitchen equipment and utensils are readily available for service periods.
- Support the kitchen team during busy meal services and special events.
- Stock & Deliveries
- Receive deliveries and check goods against delivery notes.
- Rotate stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
- Store food items correctly in line with food safety regulations.
- Report damaged, missing, or incorrect deliveries.
- Assist with stock organisation and storage management.
- Waste Management
- Remove waste and recycling from kitchen areas regularly.
- Ensure waste is segregated and disposed of correctly.
- Maintain cleanliness of refuse and recycling areas.
- Support the site's environmental and sustainability initiatives.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
- Comply with company policies and site procedures.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Report hazards, accidents, equipment faults, and maintenance issues promptly.
- Assist with maintaining compliance during food safety inspections and audits.
- General Duties
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
- Support colleagues across the catering operation as required.
- Demonstrate flexibility to meet business needs.
