Main Purpose of Job
We have an opportunity for a Group Accountant – Leases & Technical Support. The role sits within the Group Technical team, a centre of excellence responsible for the Group’s external financial reporting, accounting policies and technical accounting guidance. The main purpose of the role is to manage and support the Group’s lease accounting processes in compliance with IFRS 16, including management of the monthly close process and provision of support and training to in-country end users of the Group’s lease accounting solution.
Other responsibilities will include development and enhancement of the associated processes and controls, involvement in external reporting and other, non-lease related accounting matters. The successful candidate will be a member of the Group Finance team reporting to the Group Technical Accounting Manager. The role will develop a strong working knowledge of the IFRS 16 standard and its application within the Group’s wider financial reporting framework. It also requires the ability to analyse accounting transactions to ensure that they are correct and produce the appropriate result.
You will be the key point of contact for the Group’s country finance teams for lease reporting and will manage the day-to-day operation of the Group’s lease accounting software. You will be adept at interrogating finance IT solutions, have an interest in data management and validation, added to a strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. You will be involved in developing material and delivering training sessions for country finance teams and to provide hands-on guidance to country finance personnel to aid their financial reporting.
You will support the review of the Group’s IFRS 16 reporting in the Group’s consolidation system (Hyperion Financial Management/HFM). You will also support the Group’s country finance teams to maintain a strong control environment for leases with adherence to relevant business and IT controls. You will prepare lease disclosures in the Group’s consolidated accounts and support the Group Finance function in the external reporting of half-year and year-end financial results. You will support researching and responding to accounting queries from the country finance teams.
Experience/Skills
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant with keen interest in technical accounting, data analytics and IT system interrogation and management.
- Excellent attention to detail with ability to challenge information and data provided.
- Self-starter with a hands-on approach and strong organisational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to develop strong relationships.
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines in an organised and methodical manner and without significant day-to-day direct management.
- Previous knowledge of IFRS 16 desirable, but not essential.
- Experience of IFRS, listed company reporting and consolidation and internal financial controls beneficial, but not essential.
- Ability to identify improvements and efficiencies to processes.
- Advanced Excel skills beneficial, but not essential.
