Reporting to: F&B Event Manager

Hours/Working Pattern: 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 (Starts from 6am; late finishes can be after midnight)

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an ambitious Apprentice Hospitality Supervisor to join our team and help deliver exceptional experiences for the ICC on a full time, contracted to 40 hours per week. The primary responsibility of a Supervisor is to support and assist in the efficient operations of our Live events. The Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining operational standards, and fostering a positive work environment for the team. They are instrumental in supervising staff, facilitating smooth service delivery, and contributing to the overall success of the establishment.

The International Convention Centre (ICC) is one of the UK’s leading conference and events venues, located in the heart of Birmingham City Centre. It hosts around 400 events each year, welcoming over 350,000 visitors from around the world, creating a vibrant and inspiring place to build your career. With versatile event spaces across 10 conference halls and 10 meeting rooms, the ICC is known for delivering high-profile conferences, global summits, and major corporate events. The venue sits in a stunning location on Centenary Square, just a short walk from New Street Station, surrounded by Birmingham’s cultural landmarks, including the Library of Birmingham and the canalside area of Brindleyplace.

As an apprentice Hospitality Supervisor, you will work alongside a passionate and supportive team, gaining hands-on experience while developing your skills through structured training. No prior experience is required as full training will be provided as part of the apprenticeship! On completion of the Apprenticeship, you will achieve the L3 Hospitality Supervisor and become a qualified Apprentice Hospitality Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations Support: Assist in the smooth running of daily operations, including opening and closing procedures, cleanliness, and organisation. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations by monitoring adherence and addressing any issues promptly. Support inventory management by assisting in stock checks, receiving deliveries, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by welcoming guests, taking orders, serving food and beverages, and handling inquiries or complaints. Assist in maintaining service standards by monitoring the dining area, ensuring cleanliness, and addressing any issues promptly. Interact with customers to gather feedback and contribute to improving the overall dining experience.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise and support bar and restaurant staff during shifts, providing guidance and assistance as needed. Assist in training new team members on job responsibilities, service standards, and safety procedures. Contribute to maintaining a positive work environment by fostering teamwork, resolving conflicts, and recognising employee contributions.
  • Financial Support: Support in handling cash transactions, processing payments accurately, and reconciling cash registers. Assist in monitoring sales performance and inventory levels to ensure adequate stock availability. Contribute to cost control efforts by minimising waste and adhering to budget guidelines.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment by following health and safety protocols. Participate in training sessions related to health, safety, and food hygiene to ensure compliance. Report any safety hazards or incidents promptly and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Quality Control: Assist in monitoring food and beverage quality to ensure consistency and adherence to standards. Contribute ideas for menu improvements and promotional activities based on customer feedback and market trends.
  • Relationship Building: Build positive relationships with customers by providing friendly and attentive service. Collaborate with colleagues and management to support team goals and objectives. Develop rapport with suppliers and vendors to facilitate smooth operations and procurement processes.

Ideal Apprentice

  • Industry Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in the hospitality industry, with exposure to restaurant or bar environments.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, with experience in staff supervision and guidance.
  • Customer Service Focus: Proven track record of delivering excellent customer service and handling customer inquiries or concerns.
