Chartwell Marine is a trusted pioneer in next generation vessel design, supporting boat builders and vessel operators worldwide. The team has extensive experience in small craft naval architecture, having designed and delivered a range of different hull forms over the years. We can deliver all aspects of naval architecture from conceptual studies through to vessel incline and final stability booklet post-delivery, regardless of project size. Chartwell’s dedicated team will work to deliver our client’s objectives, whether from our portfolio of designs or when supporting a client’s project. As an award-winning company, Chartwell Marine has a proven track record in designing industry leading vessels.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced naval architect to join an expanding naval architectural company in Southampton. As a Naval Architect, you will be expected to work on a range of projects, focusing on managing each element of a design project. This will involve working with a variety of vessel types, class societies, and clients looking to develop new designs. You will also work closely with our experienced team of naval architects, structural and production engineers.

What you’ll need for the role:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience
  • A good understanding of Naval Architecture functions including but not limited to stability analysis, weight estimation, performance prediction
  • A good understanding of vessel scantling and structural design, technical specification drafting, FMEA and compliance engineering
  • Work with the sales team, meet with clients and develop design arrangements and specifications to meet their requirements
  • Work with the production team to provide clear concise supporting design information including but not limited to vessel structural arrangement and technical specification
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Experience in surveying and performing trials/tests on vessels
  • An experienced user in 2D CAD software (AutoCAD), 3D CAD (Rhino or Solidworks)
  • An experienced user in MS Office
  • An experienced user in Maxsurf suite

Additionally, the individual is to represent the company in a business development manner from time to time and bring innovation and ideas of new designs/techniques which may increase the IP/product offering of Chartwell Marine.
