Charterhouse seeks to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of English to join our vibrant and academically ambitious department from September 2026 on a fixed-term basis until the end of Summer Term 2027, with the possibility of extension. This is an exciting opportunity to teach English within one of the country’s leading co-educational boarding schools. The role would suit a recent graduate, someone looking to move into the independent sector, or an experienced teacher seeking a fresh opportunity within a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment. For a suitably qualified and experienced candidate, there may also be the opportunity to undertake the role of Second in Department.
English at Charterhouse is lively, scholarly and creative. Pupils study Edexcel IGCSE English Language and CIE Literature in English IGCSE, with strong uptake at both A Level and within the IB Diploma Programme. Beyond the classroom, the Department offers a rich programme of literary and cultural enrichment, including reading groups, creative writing, visiting speakers, theatre trips and Oxbridge preparation.
We are looking for a teacher with strong subject knowledge, high academic expectations and the ability to inspire pupils across the age and attainment range. The successful candidate will contribute fully to departmental life and to the wider pastoral and co-curricular life of the School.
