Charterhouse seeks to appoint, for September 2026, an inspirational and passionate Head of Economics. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding teacher and academic leader to shape and develop Economics at one of the country’s leading co-educational independent schools. The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with substantial experience of teaching Economics at sixth form level, together with the vision and leadership skills to lead and develop the subject successfully.

About the department

Economics is a thriving and high-profile subject at Charterhouse, taught within the School’s large and successful Economics and Business department. Located in the Beveridge Centre at the heart of the School, the department benefits from excellent facilities, including The Charterhouse Business Hub, a centre for entrepreneurship and research opened in 2023. Economics is offered through Edexcel A Level and at both Higher Level and Standard Level within the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Public examination results are consistently strong, and pupils benefit from a rich academic culture that extends well beyond the classroom.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will lead Economics while also carrying a substantial teaching commitment. They will be expected to provide clear academic leadership, promote high standards of teaching and learning, support pupil achievement, and contribute fully to the wider academic, pastoral and co-curricular life of the School.
