Role Description The Senior Girls 1st XI Football Coach is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality training sessions for the senior girls’ first team, focusing on technical skills, tactical understanding, fitness, and team cohesion. Day-to-day duties include designing session plans, leading practices, preparing squads for fixtures, managing match-day logistics, and providing constructive performance feedback to pupils. The coach will work closely with the sports department to align the football program with the School’s wider sporting and educational objectives, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. Additional responsibilities may include talent identification, mentoring less experienced players, coordinating with academic staff regarding pupils’ schedules, and contributing to the development of football across the girls’ games pathway. This is a contract role, based on-site in Godalming, requiring regular presence for training sessions, matches, and relevant school events.

Qualifications

  • Strong football coaching skills and experience at school, academy, or club level, ideally with girls’ or youth teams.
  • Recognized football coaching qualifications (e.g., FA coaching badges or equivalent) and a sound understanding of age-appropriate training methodologies.
  • Ability to plan and deliver structured coaching sessions, manage match preparation, and analyze performance to support player development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and safeguard young people in line with best practice.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with sports staff and school leadership, and to uphold Charterhouse’s values and standards of conduct.
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability in managing fixtures and training schedules, and flexibility to work around the school calendar.
  • Knowledge of injury prevention, basic sports health and safety, and willingness to complete relevant safeguarding and first aid training.
  • Previous experience in an educational or boarding school environment is advantageous but not essential.
