We are recruiting on behalf of a premium food and drink importer based in West Yorkshire. Renowned for sourcing exceptional ingredients, our client supplies chefs, retailers, and food lovers across the UK. They are seeking a highly motivated Business Development Manager to drive new customer acquisition and maximize sales opportunities. This is a fully sales-led role focused on winning new business and building long-term customer relationships.

Benefits:

  • £30,000 basic salary per annum
  • Monthly commission on personal sales (up to 50k OTE)
  • 28 days holiday including bank holidays (rising to 33 with length of service)
  • Monday to Friday working
  • Company pension

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify, target, and secure new business opportunities
  • Manage the full sales cycle from outreach and pitching through to closing deals
  • Conduct outbound calls, client visits, and product presentations to build a strong sales pipeline
  • Develop tailored proposals using strong product and category knowledge
  • Build long-term relationships with chefs, buyers, owners, and procurement teams
  • Represent the company at trade shows, food events, and customer demonstrations
  • Collaborate with the internal sales team to ensure smooth onboarding and account handover
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts, and weekly reporting
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer insights to identify growth opportunities
  • Meet and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in field sales, business development, or account acquisition—ideally within food, drink, hospitality, or FMCG
  • Strong communication, pitching, negotiation, and closing skills
  • Highly proactive, target-driven, and motivated by achieving KPIs
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and present products with enthusiasm and credibility
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a busy pipeline
  • Knowledge of premium food categories is desirable but not essential
  • Energetic, tenacious, commercially astute, and driven to achieve growth
