Role Purpose
This position is on-site in Rotherham. Please do not apply if you cannot work within the Rotherham area full time. The Network Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of all BAU related tasks, these will involve managing the day-to-day support cases recorded against the customers infrastructure. The engineer will have excellent problem-solving skills and a thorough knowledge of Network Principles across Routing, Switching, Wireless and Security Technologies. The role will involve working closely with the Charterhouse Support Team, to deliver timely outcomes for Incidents and Change and Service Requests. The engineer should also have experience with Network Management Platforms, working with ITSM systems and a good understanding of ITIL best practice. The role will include participation in an On Call rota.
Requirements
- 1st & 2nd Line Support, managing and resolving cases and associated SLA's on the corporate ITSM system
- Managing Service and Change requests and associated SLA's
- Managing escalations into Vendors and Partner where required
- Proactive monitoring and management of customer networks using Solarwinds and XMC software
- Pre-Staging, Testing and Deployment of equipment for small project roll out activities
- Supporting and maintaining new networking hardware and software infrastructure, including Local Area Network (LAN), Wireless LAN, Uninterrupted Power supply (UPS), Firewall and Cabling
- Advanced performance monitoring using Network Management Tools
- Creation of site support documentation
- Working on customer site
Required competencies - Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Understanding Extreme Fabric and Edge Network Solutions (EXoS and VOSS)
- Understanding Extreme WLAN Technology (CloudIQ, ECC)
- Understanding Extreme Software based solutions (NAC, A3, XMC, Analytics)
- 3 years' network engineering experience in LAN Switching and Routing
- Knowledge of LAN protocols including OSPF, BGP, Fabric, Layer 2, Layer 3
- Understanding of Firewall Technologies (Cisco, Palo, Forcepoint)
- ITIL understanding
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Proven ability to work in high pressured environments
Desired Competencies - Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- Extensive experience supporting Extreme/Cisco solutions to CCNA level, ideally CCNP and ECP
- Experience with Forcepoint firewalls
