Tax Consultant in Milton Keynes

Tax Consultant in Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes Full-Time On-site
C

We are looking for a Tax Consultant to join our growing specialist tax team. This is principally an advisory, technical and client-facing role rather than a traditional tax compliance position.

Working alongside our existing team, you will advise a varied commercial client base on specialist UK tax matters.

Depending upon your existing experience, your work is likely to include:

  • advising clients on employment status and IR35;
  • reviewing contracts and working practices from an employment tax perspective;
  • advising businesses operating within CIS and the construction sector;
  • advising recruitment businesses, end clients and other organisations on labour-supply and umbrella-company tax issues;
  • undertaking tax, supply-chain compliance and risk reviews;
  • drafting and reviewing contractual and technical documents;
  • helping clients respond to HMRC enquiries and investigations;
  • researching technical tax issues and producing clear, practical written advice;
  • working directly with clients, accountants and other professional advisers;
  • contributing to articles, seminars, webinars and the firm’s wider thought leadership; and
  • as your experience develops, becoming involved in contentious matters and Tax Tribunal work.

One of the things that distinguishes Chartergates is that we do not hand a contentious matter elsewhere once advice has been given. Our team can advise, draft and represent clients, including in HMRC disputes and tribunal proceedings.

Who We Are Looking For

You may already be an experienced employment tax or status specialist. Alternatively, you may come from a broader tax background and be looking for an opportunity to specialise.

You are likely to have:

  • professional experience in UK tax, whether gained in practice, industry, HMRC or another advisory environment;
  • strong analytical and technical skills;
  • the ability to understand legislation and technical guidance and apply it to real commercial situations;
  • good written skills and an ability to turn complicated tax issues into clear, concise advice;
  • confidence dealing directly with clients;
  • a commercial approach to problem solving rather than simply identifying technical risk;
  • an ability to work independently while contributing to a close-knit team; and

Experience of employment taxes, employment status, IR35, CIS, labour supply, recruitment-sector taxation or HMRC disputes would be particularly useful. We would also be interested in technically strong tax professionals who want to develop expertise in these areas.

Relevant professional qualifications such as CTA, ATT, ACA or ACCA, or a legal qualification combined with appropriate tax experience, would be welcomed. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

Why Chartergates?

At Chartergates, we are always looking to add to our team of advisers and advocates. Our team is tight-knit, dedicated and committed to securing the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Our advice and drafting are notable for their legal and technical precision, but also for our ability to balance that precision with our clients’ commercial objectives. What is more, we go further and back up our advice by representing clients in tax and employment tribunals.

In return, the successful candidate will join a team that is at the forefront of providing clients with accurate, commercial and timely advice and drafting. They will also have the opportunity to become involved in contentious disputes and tribunal representation.

In short, we back our team, their skills and provide them with the support they need to go as far as they possibly can.

You will also have the opportunity to:

  • work on genuinely technical and sometimes unusual tax matters;
  • deal directly with clients rather than being several steps removed from them;
  • develop specialist expertise in areas of tax that are increasingly important to businesses;
  • work across both advisory and contentious matters;
  • contribute to the firm’s articles, seminars, webinars and wider thought leadership;
  • develop your own professional profile and areas of expertise; and
  • progress your career and, where appropriate, obtain further recognised professional qualifications with the support of an experienced team.

For those with the aptitude and interest, there may also be opportunities to develop experience in advocacy and tribunal work.
