Based in Coventry and operating on a hybrid basis, this Buyer role reports directly to the Procurement Manager. It offers the opportunity to take full ownership of the end-to-end procurement process across a diverse portfolio of goods and services, playing a key part in supporting our laboratory operations and wider business functions.
Hours Per Week: 37
Days Per Week: Monday to Friday
Contract: Full Time and Permanent

The Day to Day
- Direct Procurement - Laboratory Operations
- Source lab consumables, chemicals, reagents, instruments, and glassware.
- Collaborate with scientists and lab managers to meet technical specs and deadlines.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and lead times with suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with ISO, GLP, and GMP standards.
- Drive product consolidation to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Indirect Procurement - Operational Support
- Manage procurement of office supplies, IT equipment, and facilities services.
- Support vendor contracts for maintenance, calibration, inspections, etc.
- Partner with internal departments to align purchasing with business goals.
- Implement strategies for cost efficiency across indirect spend.
- General Procurement
- Manage RFQs, analyse quotations, and raise purchase orders in line with policy.
- Support development of sourcing strategies with the Procurement Manager.
- Maintain accurate procurement records in the ERP system.
- Monitor supplier performance and ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Contribute to budgeting and reporting on procurement KPIs.
The Essentials
- Industry experience is preferred but not essential
- Ideally CIPS qualified or actively working towards it
- Experience with SAGE (current user preferred)
- 2-5 years' procurement experience in a fast-paced environment
- Experience formulating tenders and carrying out benchmarking is essential
- Advanced MS Excel and Office Suite skills
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach
- Excellent organisation, planning, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication, negotiation, and supplier management skills
- Full UK driving licence preferred (travel may be required within UK/Ireland)
- A second European language would be an advantage
