Job Description
The Commercial manager will require knowledge and experience in pre and post contract management and procurement within commercial contract management in the rail and infrastructure sector.
You will be expected to utilise experience and knowledge of supplier relationships and contract management to drive efficiencies in the supply chain.
Working as part of projects and programmes to deliver the strategic aims of their designated portfolios.
The commercial manager shall be educated to a degree standard in a related subject or an Associate Member of a relevant professional institute with Chartered status.
This role can be based in Manchester, Leeds or York. You can expect to be working on a hybrid basis with up to 3 days a week in the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Pre‑contract support including budget forecasting and contracting strategy
- Post‑contract commercial management
- Production of the baseline cost estimate for the project to form the project cost plan
- Cost Planning & Estimating
- Period update on the project cost plan
- Project commercial management duties including assessment of contractor valuations, preparation/submission of interim applications / variations / delay or claims
- To undertake risk reduction workshops with the project team including with the contractor
- To ensure records are maintained and saved on Autodesk
- Management & evaluation of changes including structured change control process
- Cost reporting, and commercial forecasting including cash flow and third‑party funding
- Be able to undertake take‑offs for estimating and changes
- Management of project risk register with the project manager
- Project Final Accounting & Settlements
- Contract (NEC & JCT) and procurement advice to help support the Project manager
- Preparation & analysis of BoQ\’s, proficient in the use of RMM
- Attendance at monthly board review meetings
- Attendance at contractor project progress and commercial evaluation meetings
- Supplier performance review and feedback to the procurement team
- Project progress reporting, preparation of project progress reports (including Keyedin, and Autodesk)
- To support the client\’s legal team with commercial evidence gathering
- Liaison with the client\’s finance team to provide periodic project commercial updates
- Provide commercial support to Project Managers
- To provide mentorship advice to the client\’s Assistant Commercial Manager
Qualifications
- Relevant Degree or Equivalent
- Chartered or pursuing Chartership – RICS
- To have a minimum of 10 years of experience working in the construction sector in a similar role. Experience with working with main contractors delivering civils, M&E, and railway infrastructure projects
