Buyer
Location: Newton, Cambridgeshire
Summary
You will source and purchase electronic and mechanical components, maintain stock availability, manage day-to-day supplier interactions and keep purchasing data accurate. You will follow defined processes, support supply‑chain planning and contribute to continuous improvement activity.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement
Place purchase orders for electronic and mechanical parts at the required price, quality and lead time.
Buy subcontract services, consumables and one‑off items as needed.
Monitor supplier performance and highlight delivery or quality issues.
Follow traceability, conformity and counterfeit‑material requirements.
Planning and Inventory
Work with Planning to ensure materials meet build and customer schedules.
Escalate supply risks promptly.
Manage inventory levels in line with targets.
Keep Item Master data and supplier records up to date.
Supplier Management
Support supplier qualification and onboarding activities.
Maintain day‑to‑day communication with suppliers to resolve issues.
Track key supplier metrics and update internal systems.
Work with Quality on non‑conformances and follow‑up actions.
Projects and Change
Support supply‑chain improvement activities.
Action Bill of Material changes through the ECN process.
Support annual stock take and provide cover for team activities.
Team and Compliance
Work closely with colleagues across Supply Chain.
Follow all compliance requirements and Novanta policies.
Contribute to a positive team environment.
Requirements
Experience and Skills
Experience in purchasing or supply chain.
Confident communicator with basic negotiation skills.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Understanding of manufacturing or engineering environments (desirable).
Knowledge of Incoterms and customs basics (desirable).
Strong MRP/ERP capability (essential).
Proficient in MS Office.
Proactive approach and good problem‑solving skills.
Education
CIPS or working toward it preferred.
Degree desirable but not essential.
Working Pattern & Travel
On‑site, hands‑on role.
Flexible working options available.
Occasional UK or international travel.
Passport and driving licence desirable.
