The Role
The RoleWe are looking for an experienced Senior Ecologist with ECOW experience to lead on ecological surveys, provide expert advice to clients and act as ECOW on major infrastructure and development projects. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring junior team members, ensuring the highest professional standards and contributing to business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver ecological surveys and assessments across a range of habitats and species
- Act as Environmental Clerk of Works (ECOW) on projects
- Provide expert ecological advice to clients, contractors, and stakeholders
- Prepare high-quality technical reports and EIA documentation
- Mentor and support junior staff
- Ensure compliance with UK environmental legislation and policy
- Support business development activities including proposals and tenders
Requirements
- At least 5 years’ experience in ecology with a proven UK track record
- Must be based in the UK and able to travel to remote sites
- Strong ECOW experience on infrastructure or development projects
- Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline
- At least Associate membership of CIEEM (Full membership desirable)
- Excellent communication, project management, and report writing skills
- Protected species survey licences (e.g., bats, newts, birds, or other relevant taxa) are highly desirable
