Veon is looking to recruit a seasonal student Ecologist on a three-month contract from June to September 2026 to assist our growing team throughout Scotland. This role would suit recently graduated students or those seeking work experience.
As a company providing ecology services to a wide range of sectors, the successful candidate must demonstrate a knowledge of UK ecology while also being committed to providing practical solutions for our clients. Veon Ecology provides continuity of services from Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) through to Protected Species Surveys into mitigation and the EIA chapters.
Further, our company has a unique experience in the development and delivery of Natural Capital Assessment Reports for clients holding a variety of property types and who wish to enrich and develop biodiversity across their portfolios. Our ecological services portfolio includes, but is not limited to:
- AA-Screenings
- Natura Impact Statements (NIS)
- Ecological Impact Assessments (ECIA)
- Biodiversity Management Plans (BMP)
- Preliminary Ecological Assessment (PEA)
- Invasive Alien Plants Species Surveying and Management Plans (IAPS)
- Natural Capital Assessment Reports (NCAR)
- Ornithological Surveys
- EIAR Screenings (and Biodiversity Chapters)
- Protected Species Surveys (Bats, Otter, Badger, Pine Marten, etc.)
- Freshwater, Aquatic, and Riverine Surveys
- Ecological Clerk of Works (Ecow)
- Habitat assessment (UKHab, Phase 1)
The successful candidate will be based at our office in Perth, Scotland.
The Role
- Undertaking Ecological fieldwork surveys and reporting on these surveys.
- Engaging in data collection.
- Assisting and contributing to producing technically robust ecology reports for our clients. These will include, but not limited to, Pre-screening reports, Appropriate Assessment reports and Natura Impact Statements.
- Managing a large workload efficiently including scheduling of work and communicating with team members and clients in a timely manner.
- Working as part of a busy team.
- Collating and storing ecological data and reports while maintaining these records in a manner that is easily and readily accessible by colleagues as required.
The Person
- A recent graduate or student studying Ecology, Zoology, Plant Science, Environmental Science or related discipline.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions, night work, overnight stays.
- Volunteering in a relevant activity and / or relevant work experience.
- Student membership of CIEEM.
- Good report writing.
- Use of Microsoft office; word, excel, etc.
- Some GIS experience would be an advantage.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Full clean driving licence is essential.
