We are delighted to be offering an exciting opportunity for an Ecologist to join the consultancy team at Maydencroft Limited based from our Letchworth Garden City or Windsor office. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and capable Ecologist who is keen to develop their career within a supportive and ambitious consultancy environment. The successful candidate will contribute to a broad range of ecological consultancy projects across the commercial, public, private, utility and charity sectors, while developing technical skills and experience alongside a highly experienced team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake ecological field surveys, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, protected species surveys and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
  • Produce technical reports, survey documentation and mitigation strategies.
  • Support Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitat Regulations Assessments and Habitat Management Plans.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and project teams.
  • Assist with project management, including deadlines and budgets.
  • Provide ecological advice across the business.
  • Maintain accurate field data and high-quality standards.
  • Support seasonal staff as required.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Ecology or related subject.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in ecological consultancy or a similar field.
  • FISC Level 3 or above.
  • Strong understanding of ecological legislation and protected species guidance.
  • Experience with habitat and protected species surveys.
  • Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
  • Experience using GIS software.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
  • Knowledge of the UK planning system and development-related ecology work.
  • Associate membership of CIEEM.

The position will be based from our offices at either One Garden City (Letchworth Garden City, Herts, SG6 3BF) or Pigeon House Farm (Dorney, Windsor, SL4 6QB) with opportunities for hybrid working.

Salary starting from £32,000. Permanent contract (subject to 6-month probation). Full-time, 40 hours per week. 22 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service. Company vehicle for business use. Training and development opportunities, including FISC exams. Annual performance‑related pay reviews.
