Following a recent restructure, Charnwood Council is offering four Principal Planning Officer roles. The position involves managing a diverse caseload of major housing schemes and complex developments, presenting cases at Plans Committee, and mentoring junior colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on a diverse caseload, including major housing schemes and complex development projects.
  • Present cases to the Plans Committee and manage them to determination.
  • Mentor and supervise junior planners, reviewing reports and appeals to maintain high standards.
  • Manage development negotiations and maintain compliance with planning policies.

Essential Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and report‑writing skills, able to produce high‑quality documents within tight deadlines.
  • Recent experience in development management and strong negotiation skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to transport for site visits.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Professional registrations such as RTPI, IHBC or CIEEM.
