Maternity leave cover for 11 months from April 2026 to March 2027, working 4 sessions per week on Monday and Tuesday. Salary is £10,300 per session.

Charnock Health Primary Care Centre is a friendly practice looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Salaried GP to cover maternity leave starting in early April 2026 for 11 months. Main duties of the job:
  • Provide the full range of NHS Primary Care Services to the patients, including clinical examination, diagnosis, treatment, and referral as appropriate.
  • Be personally accountable for professional and ethical actions and practices within a legal and ethical framework that adheres to the GMC's requirements and local policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality while communicating patient information in such a way that preserves the dignity and privacy of the patient and the patient's family and carers.
  • Ensure that prior to any course of action involving individuals/groups, their informed consent has been obtained.
  • Undertake a variety of duties including face-to-face consultations, telephone consultations, visiting patients at home, checking, and signing repeat prescriptions, including EPS, and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear and accurate consultation notes using the practice electronic clinic system EMIS, also using Ardens and QOF templates.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

About us: Our team consists of 4 GPs, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, GP Trainee, 2 Practice Nurses, 2 Health Care Assistants, and a Pharmacy team, all supported by our excellent reception and administrative team. We are a GP training practice who also hosts Phase 3a and 3b medical students. We are committed to providing high-quality care to our 5500 patients. We have a good CQC rating and are an active member of the Townships 2 PCN. The practice premises are a modern and spacious building, which provides an excellent working environment.

Job responsibilities:
  • Provide the full range of NHS Primary Medical Services to the patients registered at the practice, temporary residents, and patients presenting for immediately necessary treatment including clinical examination, diagnosis, treatment, and referral as appropriate.
  • Be personally accountable for professional and ethical actions and practices within a legal and ethical framework that adheres to the GMC's requirements and local policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality while communicating patient information in such a way that preserves the dignity and privacy of the patient and the patient's family and carers.
  • Work in a non-judgemental anti-discriminatory way with regard to the cultural and religious beliefs of individuals, groups, people with disabilities, and learning difficulties to communicate with the patients and carers understanding their care within the service.
  • Ensure that prior to any course of action involving individuals/groups, their informed consent or other valid authority has been obtained.
  • Make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including face-to-face consultations, telephone consultations, visiting patients at home, checking, and signing repeat prescriptions, including EPS, and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, develop care plans for health.
  • Provide counselling and health education.
  • Refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear and accurate consultation notes using the practice electronic clinic system, also using the Ardens and QOF templates.
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • In general, undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Apply practice policies, standards, and guidance.
  • Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards, and guidelines will affect own work.
  • Participate in audit where appropriate and commit to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  • Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the practice.
  • Contribute to the development of computer-based patient records.
  • Contribute to the practice achievement of QOF and other performance targets.
  • Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
  • Be registered with the GMC.
  • Maintain medical indemnity.
  • Have an up-to-date DBS.
  • Confidentiality: always keep all information regarding staff and patients confidential.
