We’re seeking new trustees to help support the long-term sustainability of our small but impactful children and families charity, particularly those with experience in IT, early years, facilities or operations management, and volunteer or event coordination.

As a trustee, your skills and experience can make a direct contribution to the future sustainability and development of Charlton Toy Library. Whether supporting fundraising, strengthening operations, improving digital systems, helping coordinate volunteers and events, or contributing specialist knowledge in early years and family support, trustees play an important role in ensuring we can continue supporting local children and families in the years ahead.

Over the next year, trustees will help guide key areas of the charity’s development, including strengthening community engagement, improving visibility and communications, supporting income generation, and helping ensure the organisation remains resilient and sustainable within a challenging environment for small charities.

We are looking for committed, collaborative and community-minded individuals who want to support a small local charity making a meaningful difference to children and families across Greenwich. You do not need previous trustee experience or experience working with children. We are particularly interested in people who can bring professional skills, practical experience and fresh perspectives to support the long-term sustainability of the charity.

Desired experience:

  • IT and digital systems
  • Early years, education or family support services
  • Facilities or operations management
  • Volunteer coordination or event management

We would also welcome experience in governance, fundraising, communications, HR, finance, safeguarding or the wider charity sector.

Desired qualities:

  • Commitment to the charity’s mission and values
  • Good judgement and a willingness to contribute ideas
  • A practical and collaborative approach
  • Reliability and integrity
  • An ability to work constructively as part of a team

As a small charity, trustees are encouraged to take an active and hands-on role, including supporting projects, fundraising activity and community engagement alongside governance responsibilities. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive trustee board that reflects the communities we support.

As a trustee, you will play an important role in helping to shape the future direction and sustainability of Charlton Toy Library, supporting local children and families across Greenwich. Charlton Toy Library has supported families for over 40 years through low-cost toy lending, stay-and-play sessions and an Outreach Service for vulnerable and isolated families. Like many small charities, we are operating in an increasingly challenging economic and funding environment and are focused on strengthening the organisation for the future.

Our trustee board works closely with our small staff team and volunteers, and trustees have opportunities to contribute to areas including fundraising, governance, communications, operational projects and community engagement through both board activity and smaller working groups. We are a supportive, collaborative and hands-on board, and welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds – including those applying for a trustee role for the first time.
