If you’re currently working within a local authority, highways maintenance, or consultancy or indeed main contractor environment, this is a chance to move into a role where you influence delivery at scale, rather than just design or maintain. 🚀 Why This Role Stands Out * Client-side position — oversee and influence across large area and project portfolio * Work across multiple Tier 1 contractors and major civils packages * High visibility role with real impact on public interface and disruption * Exposure to a complex, multi-stakeholder environment * Strong long-term progression opportunities within HS2 * Long term work – 10+ years left on the programme This is a dynamic, fast-moving role where no two days are the same. 🌍 The Role You will be responsible for coordinating and assuring all traffic management and highways-related works along your section of the HS2 route. While design is delivered by contractors and their consultants, your role is to ensure it is safe, compliant, and minimises disruption to the public. You’ll act as the key interface between contractors, local authorities, and stakeholders, resolving issues, challenging designs, and driving standards across multiple contracts. 🎯 Key Responsibilities * Assure delivery of traffic management, road design, and traffic flow planning * Coordinate across contractors, consultants, local authorities, utilities, and community teams * Review and challenge designs to ensure compliance, safety, and efficiency * Ensure works meet contractual and technical standards * Identify and resolve issues quickly, working closely with delivery teams * Carry out site visits and engage directly with contractor teams on-site ✅ What They’re Looking For * Experience in traffic management, highways design, or highways maintenance & other road/highway related position. * Strong understanding of Traffic Management Design and Road Impact Assessments * Knowledge of S278 agreements and local authority processes * Background working with local authorities, contractors, or consultancies * Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills * Ability to challenge, influence, and coordinate across multiple parties * Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across sites 🧠Bottom Line If you’re a Traffic or Highways Engineer looking to step into a client-side role on a nationally significant infrastructure project, where you can influence real-world delivery and build broader experience, this is exactly the kind of move that accelerates your career
