Are you a Health & Safety Manager / Advisor with site delivery experience on major infrastructure / heavy civils projects and looking to work on a truly iconic project? This is your opportunity to be part of the £4.2 billion HS2 London Tunnels Main Work Civils contract, delivered by the SCS Joint Venture (Skanska, Costain, Strabag). With the bulk of the TBM tunnelling completed the works are very varied; tunnel fitout, shafts, RC Structures and other associated works with 4 years left this is one of the most complex and high-profile civils packages in Europe.
SCS is responsible for constructing 13 miles of twin-bore tunnels (26 miles total) between West Ruislip and Euston, using six Tunnel Boring Machines (five operating simultaneously), along with shafts, green tunnels, cross passages, utility works, RC Concrete, steel, tunnel fitout and associated infrastructure.
The Role
As Health & Safety Manager working directly for the client organisation on HS2 you will provide Health & Safety Assurance on site acting as the eyes and ears of HS2 on the ground. Reporting into a Senior H&S Manager, working closely with the main contractor to ensure robust health & Safety practices are upheld across a complex & evolving project.
The role is about applying your practical experience to improve on site Health & Safety management in real time, the role requires someone who knows when to steer and advise the main contractor and other times step in and ensure Health & Safety standards are upheld. This is a hands-on role with meaningful responsibility. You’ll support:
- Act as a visible ambassador for HS2’s ‘Safe at Heart’ culture, actively promoting and embedding safety-first behaviours across all delivery teams.
- Support risk-based assurance activities in Health, Safety, and Security across The main works civils construction sites—ensuring early identification and mitigation of potential issues.
- Assist the Senior Health, Safety & Security Manager in driving compliance with centrally defined HSS policies and processes, specifically across: Occupational Health, Workplace Safety & Security & Site Access.
- Support the investigation of HSS incidents, ensuring robust root cause analysis, appropriate reporting, and effective implementation of lessons learned.
- Contribute to the delivery of high-quality HSS support services, ensuring that health, safety, and security are fully embedded into project planning, delivery, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What We’re Looking For
- ✔️ NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent
- ✔️ Experience conducting or supporting incident investigations
- ✔️ Onsite experience on major infrastructure /civils projects
- ✔️ Ideal Background would be experienced on high profile civil engineering programmes (Crossrail, Silvertown tunnel, Tideway, Airports, Station Modernisations etc)
- ✔️ Strong communicator and collaborator
- ✔️ Ability to operate as trusted advisor and critical friend to the main contractor
- ✔️ Exposure to client-side assurance or working for a principal contractors Tier 1 or Tier 2
