Job Details
Job Title: Girls Academy Safeguarding and Welfare Officer
Location: Sparrows Lane Training Ground
Salary: £9,672
Hours: Part time, 12 hours per week: Monday, Tuesday and either Saturday or Sunday evening (4 hours per day).
We’re looking for an approachable Safeguarding and Welfare Officer to support women and girls across our Girls Academy and PGA.
Reporting to the Senior Safeguarding Manager / Women’s Safeguarding Lead, you’ll respond to concerns and help make safeguarding part of everyday academy life.
What You'll Be Doing
- Be a trusted first point of contact for players with welfare or wellbeing concerns.
- Respond to safeguarding and poor practice concerns, following Club procedures and escalating appropriately.
- Work with parents, carers, staff and external agencies to support players and manage risks.
- Keep accurate records on MyConcern, follow up concerns and update the safeguarding team.
- Promote safeguarding awareness through staff training, education and preventative initiatives.
- Help keep safeguarding policies and procedures effective and consistently followed.
- Support safe transitions into senior age groups and attend training sessions and matches as required.

- The confidence to build trust with young athletes and their families.
- Sound judgement and the confidence to challenge poor practice.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to ongoing learning.
Essential Experience / Qualifications
- Experience in safeguarding, welfare, education, social care, community services, sport or a related setting.
- Current safeguarding knowledge, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
- A safeguarding qualification, or willingness to complete one.
- A qualification in education, social care or policing.
Skills & Attributes
- Clear communication with children, adults and senior colleagues.
- Discretion, professional boundaries and appropriate information sharing.
- Good organisation, accurate record keeping and confidence using IT systems.
- Initiative, reliability and flexibility for evening and weekend work.
You don’t need an elite sport background, but you must bring relevant experience and the ability to support young athletes.
