About the role
We work in SCRUM or Kanban teams, with a strong emphasis on cross-functional collaboration. You’ll partner closely with Engineers, QA, Product Managers, and Designers to build robust, scalable solutions that are as elegant as they are effective. We care deeply about quality, performance, and observability, and we’re always open to challenging convention when it leads to better outcomes.
As a Senior Software Engineer - 12 Month FTC Maternity Cover you will:
- Design and build modern mobile-first web applications and components using React, TypeScript and Next.js.
- Build scalable back-end services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
- Design scalable systems and well-defined service interfaces, with a strong understanding of modern software architecture and testing practices.
- Write clean, high-quality code that is easy to test, maintain and extend across both front-end and back-end services.
- Drive quality through excellent automated testing practices, including API testing to enable continuous deployment.
- Understand how modern web applications work end to end, from browser HTTP requests and API calls through to service-layer logic, data handling and page rendering.
- Use AI tools and practices to enhance product features, improve code quality and optimise engineering workflows.
- Build high-performance, reliable and scalable solutions on AWS or similar public cloud infrastructure.
- Mentor engineers who are earlier in their career.
Experience with front-end frameworks such as Next.js.

About you:
On the back end we use Java with Spring Boot, in an AWS (Amazon Web Services) environment. On the front-end React, Redux, TypeScript, Node.js, NextJS and SCSS, and test with Jest, Enzyme, React testing library and Cypress. Orchestration of our test and deployment process using CircleCI with GitHub, Maven. We use Contentful and ElasticPath as our content and commerce engines respectively. We also use Optimizely to run A/B testing on the features we build.
