About Charlie
We’re Charlie and we exist to Make Work Better. We believe the best way to do this is by building tools and services that democratise great HR for small businesses. Our sales team helps small businesses find the right tools to support their people. We’re looking for a motivated, curious Junior Business Development Representative to join the team, learn the craft of sales and help us build on our recent record results. Come and join us to make work better!
What is a “Junior Business Development Representative”?
You’ll help potential customers understand how Charlie can make work better for their business. From the first conversation through to closing a deal, you’ll listen to their challenges, demonstrate relevant features and guide them towards an informed decision. All our demos come through inbound leads generated by our marketing team. You’ll work closely with our Sales Manager and wider sales team to develop your skills, manage your pipeline and achieve your revenue targets. You don’t need years of sales experience. We’re looking for someone with drive, a willingness to learn and a thoughtful approach to understanding customers.
In this role you will:
- Listen carefully to buyers to understand their challenges, goals and priorities
- Run consultative product demos, showing how Charlie’s features can address each buyer’s needs
- Manage around 20–40 new inbound opportunities each month, keeping your work organised and your standards high
- Communicate with buyers over calls and email in a clear, friendly and persuasive way
- Follow up consistently, answering questions, sharing useful information and agreeing next steps
- Qualify opportunities effectively, recognising where Charlie is a good fit and prioritising deals with a realistic chance of closing
- Keep HubSpot accurate and up to date, following our sales processes
- Close deals and take ownership of your revenue targets
- Use coaching, feedback and call reviews to improve your approach
- Share insights about buyer needs, competitors and the market with your teammates
Requirements
You must have:
- Clear, thoughtful communication skills and the ability to listen carefully
- A strong desire to build a career in sales, achieve targets and deliver results
- An organised approach to managing your time, follow-ups and competing priorities
- A willingness to try unfamiliar things, ask questions and learn new skills
- The ability to receive feedback and put it into practice
- Resilience when things don’t go to plan, with a focus on what you can control and improve
- A sense of ownership over your work and a commitment to maintaining high standards
- A collaborative approach and a desire to help your teammates succeed
- Curiosity about customers’ businesses and an interest in helping them solve problems
Let us know if you have: (all of these are desirable, but none are required)
- Experience in sales or another customer-facing role
- Experience selling B2B software, particularly to small businesses
- Experience using a CRM such as HubSpot
- Experience delivering presentations or product demonstrations
We will still consider applications even if you don't meet every single one of the above requirements, so don't be put off if you don't match them absolutely perfectly! We cannot offer visa sponsorship and you must be able to work in the UK. This is an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of becoming permanent.
