We are looking for an Engineering lead to provide engineering leadership and expertise to the engineering teams across all site engineering functions. Work closely with the Improvements engineer and Site services lead to support project and maintenance activities. Manage site services engineers and engineering team leaders.
Role Responsibility
- Manage and support daily priorities for the engineering team leaders to ensure service levels are maintained across whole site functions.
- Engage with Operations Shift Managers and team leaders to reduce response times, effect repairs in a timely manner and deliver operational training and engagement across the Kitchen teams.
- Prioritise and deliver planned maintenance to best in class standards in line with the maintenance plan and identify/implement improvements.
- Ensure effective management of the spare parts system and CMMS.
- Understand and work to set performance measures for operational uptime, ppm and work request completion and cost control.
- Ensure all engineering procedures are adhered to, and all work carried out to relevant legislation and guidelines.
- Ensure all work is carried out in a controlled manner in line with the company's technical procedures.
- Deliver shutdown activities and out of hours support to Engineering Teams.
- Manage contractors as required.
Key Areas Of Work
- Engineering Leadership
- Manage and develop Engineering Team Leaders and Site Services Engineers effectively.
- Deputise for the Engineering Manager during absence/holiday.
- Provide strong technical leadership across projects, site services, and maintenance functions.
- Support Engineering Team Leaders in delivering preventive and reactive maintenance.
- Build a positive, collaborative relationship between Engineering and other operational functions.
- Develop and embed a root cause analysis culture to resolve underlying performance issues.
- Align with Production Leadership to balance production delivery and engineering activities.
- Reduce machinery downtime and defect opportunities.
- Create a development-focused environment for the Engineering team.
- Act as the lead contact for crisis response, ensuring clear communication and escalation.
- Identify, support, and deliver continuous improvement projects.
- Lead small and large-scale cross-functional improvement projects.
- Engage with all quarry operational functions to support development and behavioural change.
- Maintain a safe working environment in line with company and legislative requirements.
- Follow all engineering health and safety procedures.
- Work closely with the Health & Safety team and carry out required H&S responsibilities.
- Communicate effectively through formal and informal engagement with Engineering and Operational teams.
- Participate in meetings and trials requiring engineering input.
- Support operational teams to improve output, reduce defects, and eliminate inefficiencies.
- Ensure machinery is maintained in working order and meets quality and technical standards.
- Follow site technical maintenance procedures.
- Work with the hygiene team to ensure effective cleaning with minimal performance impact.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to reduce food safety risks and maintain high quality standards.
- Support the NPD team with trials and provide equipment solutions where required.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience
- Previous experience in an engineering leadership role.
- Proven people management skills.
- Ideally from an FMCG / chilled environment.
- Experience working in a customer-focused environment.
- Time-served apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
- HNC or HND in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Maintenance (ideal).
- Food production engineering experience.
- Strong communication skills.
- Team player.
- IT literate.
