The business has achieved strong YOY growth but now faces a number of positive challenges. These include managing revenue, increased customer demand, sustainability, and expansion of service offering. They have a host of clients with an extensive portfolio of projects across all sectors, including but not limited to: education, commercial, industrial, local authority, HMP, residential, healthcare, infrastructure, utilities, and leisure.
Role responsibilities
- The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for managing the workload and technical standard of local design engineering with the support of the Project Lead and Manager.
- They will be responsible for producing fee proposals and for monitoring the resource profile and profitability of the projects they work on, with support provided as required to develop these skills.
- The Mechanical Engineer will be capable of the full design of Mechanical (maybe some electrical) services, including preparation of drawings, calculations, Contractor's Proposals, and all relevant supporting documentation for projects at Pricing and Construction RIBA stages to ensure the Client's requirements are met.
- You'll be supported and encouraged to work towards Chartership, if not already.
Technical
- Supporting the Lead Engineer with input to the production of monthly management reports.
- Supporting the Directors with Design queries.
- Taking part in regular Principal Engineer meetings as required by the Lead Engineer, to discuss design department matters including, resource, projects, design issues etc.
- Attending design meetings with Client / Lead Engineer to accept design brief and/or advise on proposed work.
- Arranging required survey work.
- Preparation of Contractor's Proposals.
- Arranging the preparation of drawings and technical back-up for Planning Applications.
- Responsibility for design of mechanical services inclusive of calculations, layout drawings and specification(s).
- Carry out design reviews in line with design QA documents.
- Participation in project hand over meetings including defects and incomplete works inspections.
- Ensuring team members are kept abreast of all new developments in sustainable technology and associated training schemes.
- Carry out Technical Presentations to End Users, Clients, and Staff.
- On BIM enabled Projects, information roles and duties as defined in ISO 19650 and / or the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP).

Experience/Qualifications
- Proven ability to support Managers.
- Relevant formal qualifications are required covering all aspects of Mechanical Building Services with substantial experience in the design and calculation of:
- Mechanical – Commercially aware design of Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning, Domestic Hot and Cold-Water Services, Above Ground Foul Drainage and Utilities.
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of AutoCAD and design package software including:
- Mechanical - Hevacomp or IES Preferred (Not essential) - Working knowledge of Revit MEP.
- Full mechanical design works (RIBA stage 1-7).
- Mechanical performance specifications and Scope of works (RIBA stage 1-3).
- BMS (Building Management Systems).
