About the Role

We're looking for an experienced

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Advisor to join Charles Trent and take ownership of health, safety and environmental compliance across our operational sites.

This is a newly created role offering genuine autonomy and the opportunity to shape our SHE function as the business continues to grow.

Working closely with operational managers and senior leadership, you'll drive a proactive safety culture, ensure legal compliance, and support continuous improvement across our sites.

This is a hands on position, ideal for someone who enjoys being visible within an operational environment and influencing positive change.

Key Responsibilities

As our SHE Advisor, you will

  • Health & Safety
  • Lead the day to day management of our Health & Safety Management System.
  • Produce, review and implement risk assessments across operational departments.
  • Develop and maintain Safe Systems of Work and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Lead accident, incident and near miss investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Coordinate regular workplace inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
  • Manage fire safety arrangements, including risk assessments and evacuation procedures.
  • Oversee PPE compliance and ensure appropriate equipment is available across the business.
  • Deliver and coordinate health and safety training and maintain training records.
  • Environmental Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and company policies.
  • Monitor waste management processes, spill response procedures and environmental performance.
  • Support environmental audits and maintain audit readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to improve environmental performance and reduce risk.
  • Operational Support
  • Work closely with Operations, HR and Transport teams to embed a positive safety culture.
  • Support occupational health referrals, workplace adjustments and return to work risk assessments where required.
  • Chair Health & Safety meetings and monitor completion of agreed actions.
  • Act as the main point of contact during HSE inspections and external audits.
  • Produce monthly SHE reports, highlighting compliance performance, trends and improvement opportunities.

About You

We're looking for someone who is practical, approachable and confident working within a busy operational environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent experience supported by IOSH qualifications).
  • Previous experience within a dedicated Health & Safety or SHE role.
  • Experience carrying out risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage colleagues at all levels of the business.
  • Strong administrative and report writing skills.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable

  • Grad IOSH, Cert IOSH or CMIOSH membership.
  • Environmental qualification or experience.
  • Experience within automotive, manufacturing, recycling, logistics or waste management.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
  • Knowledge of COSHH, FLT safety and transport compliance.
  • First Aid at Work qualification.
