Overall purpose of the role
We are looking for a motivated Junior SQL Server Database Administrator to support our cloud-first strategy and contribute to the day-to-day operations of our SQL Server environments. This is a remote position open to candidates in the UK and is ideal for someone with foundational SQL Server experience who’s eager to grow their skills in a dynamic, enterprise-level environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the maintenance and monitoring of SQL Server databases (on-prem and cloud).
- Assist in routine database tasks such as backup checks, patching, indexing, and performance monitoring.
- Learn and help with the migration of databases to Azure SQL (IaaS/PaaS).
- Help implement security and access controls across environments.
- Monitor database performance and assist in identifying potential issues before they escalate.
- Document processes, incidents, and configuration changes.
- Contribute to automation scripts under guidance (e.g. PowerShell or T-SQL).

Key Skills & Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience working with SQL Server databases (2016 or later).
- Good understanding of database concepts, performance basics, and troubleshooting.
- Exposure to or interest in cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure.
- Some experience writing basic T-SQL queries and scripts.
- Interest in automation (PowerShell, SQL Agent Jobs, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
- Comfortable working remotely with international teams.
- Excellent communication skills.
Nice to Have (Not Essential):
- Experience with Azure SQL, Managed Instances, or Azure Virtual Machines.
- Exposure to backup and disaster recovery strategies.
