Charles Simon Associates are currently looking for a Data Centre Engineer on a permanent basis for our client, a global business leader in their sector and a household name. The data centre team are at the centre of everything this business does, the technologies and opportunities are endless for the right candidate.

Location: Home Based

Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum Plus On call (1 in 5)

Skills/Requirements for the Data Centre Engineer:

  • Extensive Data Centre experience previously
  • Ability to lead IT projects and engage stakeholders
  • Extensive Hypervisor experience, ideally within VMware or Oracle Linux VM
  • Strong SAN Storage experience including Fibre Channel Switches, SAN Zoning and IP Based Storage
  • Linux experience, within RedHat and/or Oracle Linux
  • VMware Clustering
  • Working within ITIL processes for Change and Problem Management
  • Ideally SAN products such as Dell EMC, 3Par, NetApp or Nimble would be advantageous
  • Any previous experience of working within a private cloud environment would be highly desirable

Start date: ASAP for the Data Centre Engineer

The Data Centre Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Storage & Data Centre infrastructure as directed by management
  • Assisting with the design of Data Centres ensuring no single points of failure to enable High Availability and comprehensive DR provision for all critical systems.
  • Ensuring maximum availability of Data Centre and Cloud systems and minimum disruption due to change - planned or otherwise.
  • Installing, configuring and managing Linux servers and software as required, using automation where possible.
  • Configuring and managing Data Protection platforms including Commvault, Dell EMC Networker and Zerto.
  • Working closely with DBA, Network, Application, Systems and Service Desk teams on projects, migrations, upgrades, refreshes, architecture and other activities.
  • Carrying out regular Disaster Recovery (DR) testing on key systems
  • Ensuring systems maintenance, support, installations, upgrades, performance monitoring, capacity planning, compute and storage management is carried out with minimum disruption
  • Maintaining documentation and diagrams to describe all systems, networks and communications.
  • Participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota as required.
  • Maintaining knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in Data Centre, SAN Storage, Cloud, Linux compute and related technology.
