International Relationships Executive
As an International Relationships Executive, you will support the firm's international business development and relationship-building activities with a particular focus on country and regional ‘desks’ (collaborative groups) in markets where we do not have offices, our membership of international networks and associations, and our international relationships programme.
You will work closely with partners, relationship leads and colleagues across the Business Development and Marketing team to help deliver initiatives that support the firm's international growth objectives.
This activity is led by the firm’s International Relationships Committee (IRC).
This role reports to the International Relationships Manager (IRM) and works closely with the Head of International Relationships.
The Executive is part of the broader International Relationships and Business Development team, collaborating with colleagues across our international offices and the wider Client Development, Marketing and Relationships function.
The role also works closely with other business services teams including Communications, Digital, Events and IT.
- Roles and Responsibilities
- International Desks
Working with the IRM to support the delivery of a programme of activity across the firm's key international markets, including the US, Africa, Latin America, India, China, Europe, the Caribbean and Israel.
Responsibilities include
- Supporting the coordination of desk meetings, including organising meetings, preparing agendas and materials, taking notes and monitoring follow-up actions.
- Assisting with market visits and conferences, including maintaining the central calendar, preparing briefing materials, supporting digital promotion, circulating trip reports and following up agreed actions.
- Working alongside the Events Team to support the delivery of events in the UK, including those involving clients, intermediaries, relationship firms and membership organisations.
- Supporting the maintenance and development of webpages for key markets and assisting with digital promotion through Linked In and other channels.
- Assisting with sponsorships and memberships to help maximise the firm's profile and return on investment.
- Coordinating desk marketing collateral, including brochures, team sheets and other client-facing materials, ensuring they remain up to date and aligned with firm brand guidelines.
- Drafting and coordinating internal communications to promote the international programme, including newsletters, intranet content and other internal communications initiatives.
- Supporting the coordination and submission of legal directory and award submissions, working with partners and colleagues to ensure content is delivered accurately and on time.
- Supporting relationships with external organisations, including chambers of commerce, business associations and market-focused groups.
- Undertaking market and client research to support desk activity and business development initiatives.
- Supporting pitches, credentials and other business development opportunities involving the desks.
- Assisting in identifying opportunities to raise the firm's profile in key markets through monitoring legal, business and industry developments.
- Networks and Associations
Supporting the IRM and Head of International Relationships in maximising the value of the firm's membership of networks ALFA International and The Association of European Lawyers (AEL), plus the International Bar Association (IBA) and other international organisations.
Responsibilities include
- Monitoring and reporting on referrals and opportunities using our CRM System, Inter Action, encouraging consistent data capture and supporting best practice across the firm.
- Supporting the firm's programme at the IBA Annual Conference, including liaison with colleagues across Events, Brand, Digital and Design, together with responsibility for briefing materials and delegate support.
- Assisting with the firm's engagement in international networks, associations and business organisations to strengthen relationships and identify new opportunities.
- International Relationships Programme
Supporting the delivery and ongoing development of the firm's international relationships programme. Responsibilities include
- Coordinating the Working Together Worldwide newsletter, including content collection, drafting, circulation management and reporting.
- Supporting the ongoing development and maintenance of the firm's international relationships directory and related digital resources.
- Assisting with international secondments involving relationship firms.
- Supporting international relationship-building initiatives and events, including our European Future Leaders Forum in London.
- Helping maintain relationship intelligence, contact information and programme reporting.
- Budget Responsibilities
- Supporting the IRM with budget tracking and administration for international desk and network activities.
- Assisting with monitoring expenditure and ensuring activities remain within agreed budgets.
- Other Responsibilities
- Supporting the first drafts of reports and updates on IRC activity to internal boards.
- Supporting a data-driven approach to international relationship management through effective use of Inter Action and other business intelligence tools including AI.
- Working with colleagues to promote best practice around client relationship data, referrals and new business processes.
- Maintaining and updating international programme content on the firm's intranet.
- Supporting ad hoc projects and initiatives led by the Head of International Relationships or IRM.
- Comply with all relevant legal and regulatory obligations including the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Standards and Regulations, and Principles.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a business development, marketing, client development or relationship management role, ideally within a professional services environment.
- An interest in international markets and relationship-building.
- Experience supporting business development activities such as events, conferences, campaigns, pitches or client programmes.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Confident user of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Copilot.
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn.
- A collaborative team player with the ability to build effective working relationships across different teams, offices and cultures.
- Able to adapt and respond positively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience of CRM systems, preferably Inter Action, would be advantageous.
