Do you have expertise in Cloud Engineering? Are you a Subject Matter Expert in AWS? Charles River Laboratories is looking for an energetic professional to provide engineering and architecture expertise within the Global Infrastructure Services team as an individual contributor and part of a cross functional team of engineers. The Senior Cloud Engineer will be an integral component in delivering effective and secure end-to-end cloud infrastructure technology solutions.

This role will require a mix of subject matter expertise in cloud computing technologies along with legacy data center environments. You will be challenged to find approaches that enable rapid adoption of new cloud services and drive transformation for our business and IT processes. The cloud engineer will take part in infrastructure as code deployment tooling and supporting services. Through excellence in delivery, they will help to achieve and maintain a high level of employee engagement, customer satisfaction and team productivity.

This is a remote position, with the ideal candidate based in the UK/IRL or EU. Approximate salary banding on this role: 50,000 - 60,000 per annum + bonus + benefits. Please note that the salary varies within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Supporting the digital transformation initiative and cloud strategy by designing and implementing cloud migrations and services as part of a dedicated team of engineers.
  • Contributing to a high performing team that delivers consumable, standardized hybrid cloud infrastructure services and solutions (resilient, high quality, secure, highly automated and up to date).
  • Collaborating and consulting with other IT practices to support technical solution development and deployment.
  • Working with external strategic partners to develop and deliver technical solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and deploy IaaS and PaaS infrastructure solutions in AWS.
  • Lift and Shift application migrations to AWS using cloud migration technologies.
  • Participate in multiple highly complex projects/tasks simultaneously and prioritize as required.
  • Develop and document technical designs and requirements for integration and implementation of new and existing cloud applications and systems.
  • Document cloud infrastructure engineering procedures and collaborate on various information technology projects.
  • Maintain and grow knowledge of platform configuration management and troubleshooting.
  • Embrace a team mentality by mentoring more junior engineers and cross-training with other engineers.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and General Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in computer science, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Effective communication skills for large, multi-national audiences.
  • Able to work collaboratively across geographical regions.
  • Utility player – broad understanding of tools and technologies.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new toolsets and solutions.
  • Business acumen – understanding of customer value.

Technical Experience:

  • Significant IT industry experience with a strong track record of hands-on experience using Azure and AWS Cloud, including Transit Gateway and Hub/Spoke micro-segmented or zero trust designs.
  • Demonstrable experience with designing cloud implementation architectures and solutions using DevOps mindset, automation, and PaaS & IaaS resources.
  • Experience migrating Windows and Linux workloads to public cloud infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking, firewalls, load balancers.
  • Experience using infrastructure as code and tooling (Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD).
  • Experience with Cloud Security standards and frameworks including NIST, CIS, etc.
  • Experience working on or with teams using Agile methodologies such as Scrum.

Other:

  • Experience with containers such as Docker, OpenShift a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to cross train, document and operationalize new technologies.
  • In depth knowledge of hybrid cloud infrastructure design and implementation.
  • Experience with building and maintaining systems for regulated workloads.

Certification/Licensure: AWS certification a plus.
