Job Summary

We are seeking a Service Technician for our world class facilities located in Tranent on a 12 month fixed term contract.

We are a progressive and close-knit team, working hard to ensure the safety of new medicines which target life threating and debilitating diseases. We are passionate about our animals, striving to provide the best possible care with a culture of continuous improvement.

We provide all the training and support you need. A positive attitude with a good work ethic is essential, as we need reliable individuals with a good attendance record.

The following are responsibilities related to the Service Technician position:

  • Providing the animal rooms with the relevant type of caging, bottles and other relevant equipment as requested by the supervisor and in accordance with the relevant work schedule.
  • Collection and sanitisation of all animal caging, racks, bottles and associated equipment
  • Receive animal transport crates from internal/external animal suppliers and pass these onto the animal technicians.
  • Maintain stock control, order/receive general stores within the area e.g consumables, diet, bedding, etc
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness/tidiness and hygiene within the service areas and associated areas of each unit
  • Operate and maintain cleaning and sterilising equipment following the directions in the manual or relevant guidelines. Report immediately to engineers/animal unit manager any equipment malfunctions
  • Undertake other such tasks as will be requested by the supervisor or animal unit staff and to ensure work is conducted in a co-operative and flexible manner
  • To participate in overtime as is reasonably required to ensure the smooth running of the department.
  • Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times.


The following are minimum requirements related to the Service (Cage-Wash) Technician position:

  • Previous mechanical experience working with machinery is desirable.
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends and weekdays
  • Have a 'can do' attitude and the ability to work as part of a team


Please note this role is physically demanding, and you will be active and on your feet most of the day.

You must be fully able to make your own travel arrangements to and from work during normal working hours and for overtime hours at the weekend, evenings and early mornings.

The salary for this role is £23,842.35 per annum.
