An exciting opportunity for a veterinarian to join our dedicated team passionate about animal welfare. We are a growing group of 5 vets plus support staff based at the pre‑clinical facility in Elphinstone, Tranent (close to Edinburgh). As a deputy Named Veterinary Surgeon under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act, you will provide clinical care services for a diverse mix of laboratory and farm animal species, ensuring the highest standards of welfare, ethical consideration, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Act as deputy Named Veterinary Surgeon in accordance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act.
  • Provide clinical care services to a broad range of species at the Tranent site.
  • Advocate for animals and ensure delivery of the highest standards of welfare and ethical practice, in association with the Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Body.
  • Assist in the conduct of clinical work site‑wide, including medical and surgical case management, and support studies by providing specialist veterinary services in areas such as anaesthesia, surgery, and ophthalmology.
  • Participate in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota.

Job Qualifications

  • Eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and relevant clinical work experience.
  • Graduated with a Veterinary degree, with solid observational and fine‑motor skills.
  • Established skills in medicine and surgery transferable to the species you will work with and a drive to expand your skillset.
  • Confidence and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Previous experience in the laboratory animal field advantageous, though full training will be provided.
