Overview

Research Scientist 1 – Immunology/Immunochemistry at Charles River Laboratories, Shrewsbury, MA. The incumbent will serve as a scientific team member for preclinical and clinical research studies, with responsibilities including study management, interpretation and reporting of study data, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The role includes development and validation of biomarker, PK and ADA assays (e.g., ligand binding assays, enzymatic assays, Luminex, Bioplex, MSD, Quanterix, ProteinSimple). The primary scientific contact for key clients and on-site support of their programs.

Responsibilities

  • Function independently as a Project Scientist, Principal Investigator, or Contributing Scientist in the direction and execution of assigned studies in compliance with regulations for preclinical and clinical research. Provide scientific expertise in study conduct, design, and interpretation.
  • Participate in and coordinate all phases of the study planning process with appropriate departments.
  • Develop assays, generate high-quality laboratory methods, protocols, amendments, and reports, and facilitate appropriate changes to study design for assigned projects and programs.
  • Review, interpret, integrate, and present data on assigned studies.
  • Write and edit draft or final reports documenting all study procedures and results.
  • Analyze scientific problems, troubleshoot analytical methods and technical issues.
  • Serve as the primary scientific contact for sponsor planning and execution of studies, including proposal management and study scheduling, conduct and reporting.
  • Provide prompt verbal or written communication with Sponsors on study-related business.
  • Mentor technical staff in areas such as protocol interpretation, method development and refinement, problem resolution, and validation study execution.
  • Provide technical and scientific guidance to the research staff.
  • Contribute to testing of new biomarker technologies or introduce improvements to existing technologies.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline required; related Master’s degree or PhD/DVM preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years related experience in development and/or validation of biomarker, PK and ADA assays (e.g., ligand binding assays, enzymatic assays, Luminex, Bioplex, MSD, Quanterix Simoa, ProteinSimple Ella); CRO experience preferred.
  • Other: Understanding of regulatory requirements for the assigned study types and GLPs; strong written and verbal communication; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and standard laboratory calculations; Watson LIMS experience preferred.

Work Environment

  • General office conditions with usually quiet noise levels; may involve wearing protective clothing and handling biohazards or live animals with exposure to allergens and/or zoonotic diseases; potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles, odors, and variable temperatures.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is between $100,000 to $110,000. Salaries vary based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
