An exciting opportunity has arisen for a veterinarian to join a dedicated team passionate about animal welfare. The department of Veterinary Services at Charles River provides expert advice on animal health and welfare across a diverse mix of laboratory and farm animal species. The position is located at our world class preclinical facility in Elphinstone, Tranent (close to Edinburgh). The role involves acting as the deputy named Veterinary Surgeon in accordance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act, providing clinical care services to a broad range of species at the Tranent site.
Responsibilities
- Act as deputy named Veterinary Surgeon, ensuring clinical care for all animal species.
- Advocate for animal welfare and ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Body.
- Assist with medical and surgical case management across the site.
- Provide specialist veterinary services in anaesthesia, surgery and ophthalmology to support studies.
- Participate in an out of hours on call rota.
Qualifications
- Eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
- Graduated with a Veterinary degree and relevant clinical work experience.
- Good observational and fine motor skills with established medicine and surgery skills translatable to the species worked with.
- Confidence and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients and regulatory bodies.
- Previous experience in the laboratory animal field is advantageous (full training will be provided).
