PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Senior Bookkeeper plays a key role in maintaining financial accuracy across the portfolio, supporting cashflow operations, training team members, and acting as a point of escalation within the Finance Team. This role supports high-level financial workflow, ensuring operational excellence and efficiency across Charles Hope's growing footprint. The ideal contractor has strong experience, confidence handling escalations, and a deep understanding of CH processes, structures, and cashflow considerations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Management & Oversight
Maintain accurate financial records within Xero, ensuring alignment with CH processes and accounting standards. Lead bank reconciliations across multiple entities, resolving discrepancies proactively. Assist in preparing financial statements and operational finance reports. - Accounts Payable & Receivable
Oversee invoice processing, payment scheduling, and collections to support healthy cashflow. Review all auto-generated sales invoices for accuracy and correct coding. Manage supplier and partner queries professionally and efficiently. - Escalation & Cashflow Support
Act as a key point of escalation for bookkeeping queries and payment plans, with twice-daily check-ins. Oversee the payment request spreadsheet, raising payments morning/evening to protect cashflow. Manage urgent or time-sensitive payment escalations (e.g., Ops top-ups) during daytime hours. Support the transition of payment responsibilities to senior bookkeepers over time. - Training & Team Support
Deliver AP training, including site structure, company splits, and operational workflow. Provide 1-2-1 support to team members where needed, offering guidance and feedback. Support bookkeeping tasks such as company card reconciliations, chasers, and bank recs until additional hires join the team. - Administrative & Weekend Support
Ensure all financial records are maintained in accordance with CH compliance standards. Provide occasional weekend support when required to assist with key financial processes.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimum 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience. Strong understanding of UK financial processes and VAT. Advanced skills in Xero and Microsoft Excel. Strong communication and leadership capabilities. Experience in hospitality or property management preferred. Ability to work independently and manage escalations confidently. Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.
