Job Summary

If you are in the UK on a visa please ensure you have no restrictions that would prevent you from taking this post. We are unable to sponsor Healthcare Assistants without 2 years band 3 NHS experience. If you are new to care you must complete a care certificate when you commence employment and be paid band 2 until completion.

Main duties

  • Two part time posts are available and Trust wide working will be required.
  • Set up and assist during minor skin surgery lists and undertake the role of circulating assistant.
  • Print off documentation prior to clinics and surgery lists.
  • Enter patient details onto Trust software (e.g., SystmOne).
  • Maintain a caring, calm, safe and supportive environment for patients undergoing skin surgery and being seen in dermatology clinics.
  • Provide advice on post-operative wound care and basic wound dressings.
  • Act as chaperone.
  • Take blood and dermatology-specific samples in your own clinics alongside Dermatology Doctors and/or Specialist nurses.
  • Order stock and manage stock control; undertake duties related to Medical devices and Health and Safety, including DSE risk assessments.
  • Travel across Trust sites as required.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Good interpersonal skills; able to engage and build effective relationships at all levels.
  • Understanding of the role of HCSW; team player; confidentiality.
  • Initiative; ability to work unsupervised in line with local guidelines for dermatology in clinics and minor procedure skin surgery rooms.
  • Ability to travel across Trust sites.

Experience

  • Essential: Computer skills; ability to learn new skills.
  • Desirable: Previous experience in caring for others.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent; Care Certificate or willingness to complete within first 6 months; GCSE English and Mathematics.
  • Desirable: Short courses relevant to patient and clinical care duties.

Special Skills and Knowledge

  • Good verbal and written English; clear communication; ability to act on own initiative.
  • Ability to work under some pressure; leadership, planning, and observational skills.
  • Willingness to take and record patient observations.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of care procedures, clinical observations, and relevant legislation.

Special Requirements

  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills; reflective practitioner.
  • Ability to work in a busy and varied environment and adapt to change.
  • Ability to offer pastoral support to mentors and students when providing feedback on performance (Desirable).
